The Co-operative Membershipwhat is the
role of a director?

Chelmsford Star Co-operative Society has a Board of ten Directors, one of whom is choosen by the Directors themselves to be Society President. Irrespective of background, occupation or work status, they all believe in co-operative Values and Principles and possess a desire to work together for the benefit of the members and the community.

The Board meets regularly to determine the Society’s policies and direction, and to monitor progress in line with agreed strategy. The Chief Executive Officer, who advised and guides the Board, and his team of Managers are responsible for putting the Board’s policies into practice. Directors give the equivalent of a few hours each week and receive regular and ongoing training to help them to carry out their duties and equip them for positions of greater involvement.
